Dead? Have a banana!

While many coffin makers offer receptacles for natural burials such as biodegradable newspapers or recycled cardboard, Ecoffins USA based in Montrose, Colo. is selling caskets made of banana sheaves that takes six months to two years to decompose.

The bodies of the deceased are not embalmed and eventually decompose into the earth along with the casing. As nature intended.

These coffins, as well as others made of bamboo, are better than the environment than the embalming process, according to Joanna Passerelli, Ecoffins USA marketing director.

While cremation is not among the top carbon culprits, every little bit helps.
